for the first time in days, caltrans has lifted chain restrictions for drivers along interstate 80 and highway 50 through the sierra, near lake tahoe. this is a look at interstate 80 thursday afternoon, near the donner summit, the roadway is clear, but lot's of snow off to the the sides. check out this guy, sledding down the hill. now, a few miles away same story at the donner lake interchange. last night traffic was a parking lot here but things are looking good today. this is a view from along highway 267 at the northstar. things looking clear here as well. to the south, same story. the roads are looking good. this is a view from highway 50 at meyers. here's another look from 50 at ski run, in south lake tahoe. now, as for the skiing. all the ski resorts around lake tahoe are reporting fresh snow and excellent conditions. this is a view thursday afternoon from squaw valley. squaw says they have recieved 9 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours. 29" inches since monday. to the south, this is a view from kirkwood which has received 6" in the past 24hours.
